MONROE, Conn. — Clutch, late-game free throws by Nate O’Hara lifted the Masuk boys basketball team to an exciting 60-58 win over visiting Kaynor Tech of Waterbury Friday, when the Panthers received huge contributions from many players in their second game in as many nights.
“We trailed the majority of the game until the final few seconds,” Masuk Coach Pete Szklarz said. “Matt Boyle and Saijon Gavin carried us most of the game. Jaylen Africot gave a huge spark off the bench and was disruptive on defense. Owen Mok and Caleb Purdy gave big contributions on both ends of the floor. Nate O’Hara knocked down three of four free throws to give us the lead … and got a huge steal in the final seconds to give us the win.”
Matt Boyle scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Gavin tallied 14 points and five rebounds and played some key defense, including five steals.

O’Hara finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a trio of steals. Mok had eight points to go along with four assists and four steals. Purdy added four points and three rebounds. Will Scholz tacked on two assists, four rebounds and two steals. Africot contributed two points and three assists.
The Panthers lost 61-45 to visiting Newtown on Thursday. Boyle had 19 points and four rebounds. Gavin had a dozen points and three assists to go along with nine rebounds. Purdy logged six points and two blocks. Mok had three points and a pair of assists. O’Hara had two points, four assists and four rebounds. Africot added three points. Danny Londono provided solid minutes off bench. Joao Rassati gave the team good defensive minutes. Scholz grabbed five rebounds.
Masuk, 3-6, will host Bassick of Bridgeport Monday and entertain Stratford Tuesday night, both at 7 p.m.
