BROOKFIELD, Conn. — Masuk High’s boys basketball team heads into a potentially challenging week on a high note following a 57-43 win at Brookfield on Friday night.

The Panthers were led by a trio of high scorers along with contributions from starters and reserves alike.

Saijon Gavin scored 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Matt Boyle scored 16 points and had five rebounds and three steals. Nate O’Hara logged 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and six steals.

Owen Mok contributed five points, three rebounds and two assists. Jaylen Africot had two assists and two rebounds. Danny Londono had two points, an assist and one steal. Justin Zyskowski recorded two points and a pair of rebounds. Will Scholz had an assist to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Nick Rodrigues added an assist.

“Great defensive effort. Nate O’Hara was fantastic — he was disruptive, grabbing huge rebounds and getting steals,” Coach Pete Szklarz said. “Nate provided much needed energy early that his teammates fed off of. Saijon and Matt had big games once again and were starting to find our rhythm.”

Masuk hosts Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport Monday and visits Bunnell of Stratford Thursday, both at 7 p.m., before going out of conference to visit Shelton Saturday at 12:30.

The Panthers are 5-9 overall. Kolbe is 8-5, Bunnell stands at 8-3 and Shelton is 9-3. Masuk has handed Bethel one of its two losses in South-West Conference play this winter and will again look to elevate its game against tough competition.
