David Patrick Wilson, age 58, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and formerly of Monroe, Conn., beloved husband of Monica Merlonghi Wilson, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Born in Bridgeport on June 3, 1967, he was a son of Catherine Bieryla and the late George Wilson Jr.

David grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1985. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. A U.S. Navy veteran, David served in the United States Navy from May 1992 to June 1998.

He began his career with the Greenwich Police Department on November 15, 1999, quickly gaining a reputation for his strong work ethic and commitment to justice. In 2004, he became the department’s first “Officer of the Month” after helping solve a commercial burglary.

On October 7, 2008, he was promoted to detective. In 2012, he received the Dr. John Clarke Officer of the Year Award for his work in solving a 2009 case that impacted the community. Detective Wilson committed much of his life to the safety and well-being of his community. After nearly two decades of service, Detective Wilson retired from the force on April 1, 2017, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, bravery and compassion.

He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments in law enforcement, but also for his quiet strength, loyalty to his colleagues, and deep commitment to the people he served.

Above all, he was a devoted family man: loving, dependable, and present. His greatest pride was the time he spent with his wife and children.

He had a quick wit and an easy charm that could make anyone laugh, often lightening even the heaviest moments with humor and warmth. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan who also found joy in the simple pleasures of life: golf, live music, and sharing his unforgettable dance moves that could make anyone smile.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Monica; his loving mother, Catherine; and his three cherished children, Daniella, Isabella (Alex Ross), and Dylan Wilson.

He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Wilson; his sister, Nancy Reyes (Michael); father-in-law Marcello Merlonghi; aunts; cousins; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews: Alyssa (Zach), Nicole (Devon), Officer Enzo Merlonghi (Trumbull PD), Lucas, Gianno, and Gabriel; great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and colleagues who will miss him deeply. David was predeceased by his beloved father, George, and his infant sister, Kathleen.
