To the Editor:
As a teacher, small business owner, mother and resident of Monroe for over 10 years, I’ve learned the value of problem-solving, communication, and community connection. These are the same skills I’ll bring to the Town Council if elected this November.
I’ll be honest, I never would have predicted that I’d run for a position in government. Public service puts you squarely in the public eye and, much like the tabloids at the grocery store, everyone feels entitled to talk to and about you. It’s been eye-opening to see how cruel and disrespectful some comments can be.
So why do it? Why step forward anyway? Because our town is worth it. I won’t back down because of a few mean words. Those words mean nothing compared to helping our seniors feel safe and able to stay in their homes. They mean nothing next to ensuring our schools, which have been overcrowded for far too long, get the support they need.
I will continue to push our leaders to make timely decisions based on what’s best for Monroe, not what’s politically convenient. And I will stand up for our most vulnerable neighbors: those struggling through hard times, our children and anyone facing harassment or discrimination because of who they are.
This election I humbly ask for your vote for Monroe’s Town Council. Thank you.
Nina Gagnon
Monroe Democratic Candidate for Town Council
