MONROE, Conn. — In a clash of Panthers Masuk High defeated Pomperaug 26-15 at home on Friday night. With the win the Panthers improved to 5-4. Masuk sits in ninth in the Class MM state rankings, one spot out of playoff position with a game to play (Thanksgiving Eve at Newtown, which is 7-2).
Pomperaug opened the scoring and held a 15-12 halftime lead. Masuk scored twice in the third quarter to seize control.
Aaron Champagne’s 53 yard pass to Jake Viglione got Masuk on the board (point after kick failed) and Michael Charland’s 7 yard run gave the Panthers a 12-8 lead (2 point conversion failed). Pomperaug reclaimed the lead on a 23-yard TD run.
Pomperaug fell to 4-5.
Viglione had five catches for 137 yards and a pair of TDs to go along with an interception. Charland had 11 carries for 72 yards and two TDs. Champagne completed 12 of 19 pass attempts for 291 yards and two scores.
