MONROE, Conn. — Monroe police detectives’ investigation led to the arrest of a New York man for allegedly using fraudulent credit cards to make over $2,000 worth of purchases at the Noble Gas station on Route 111 last year.
On Thursday, the detectives picked up Carlington Graham, 29, of the Bronx at Rikers Island, where he was being held on other charges, and brought him to Monroe on an extraditable warrant.
Graham was charged with third-degree larceny and released after paying seven percent of his $5,000 bond. Then he was turned over to the custody of the New Britain Police Department for a similar offense. He is scheduled to appear in court in Bridgeport on Jan. 28 for Monroe’s charge.
Last January, police said Graham allegedly used fraudulent credit cards to buy gas, cartons of cigarettes and drinks over a three day period.
On January 8, 2025, he bought $431 worth of merchandise, on the 10th he bought $787 worth and on the 14th it was $793, according to police.
Police said the clerk of the Noble Gas convenience store at 205 Monroe Turnpike provided a photo of an ID he believed the suspect had used at another Noble Gas location in Hartford.
The detectives’ investigation developed Graham as a suspect and he has also been linked to incidents of using fraudulent credits cards to make purchases at Noble Gas locations in Hartford and New Britain, according to police.
Stolen dirt bikes
A 27-year-old Purdy Hill Road man reported the theft of two red Honda dirt bikes from a locked, detached garage on his property sometime overnight, according to a complaint filed Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday morning, the homeowner went outside and noticed one of the garage doors was open and saw bike tracks in the snow leading away from it, police said. Then he went inside the garage, where both of his bikes were missing.
Police said a window was pried open to gain access to the garage and a chain lock for the dirt bikes was cut.
One dirt bike is valued at $3,000 and the other at $3,500.
Detectives were called in to process the scene and the burglary is being investigated.
Reckless driving
A Mohegan Lake, N.Y., man allegedly crossed over the double yellow center line, while speeding past a police vehicle in his blue Nissan as he headed north on Route 25 (Main Street) Wednesday afternoon.
The officer activated his lights and siren, but the Nissan continued on at a high rate of speed, going over the center line to pass two more cars on the left, before passing a car on the right near the intersection with Green Street, according to the report.
The officer lost sight of the Nissan, so Monroe police notified the Newtown Police Department about the car heading in their direction.
Newtown police pulled over the driver in the 100-block of South Main Street and took him into custody.
Monroe officers went to the Newtown Police Department and issued the driver a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving, passing in a no passing zone and passing on the right. He was released back into the custody of Newtown police on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 10.
