Monroe Police: Burglary spree hits FM One Stop, Shell gas station

FM One Stop is located at 447 Monroe Turnpike.

MONROE, CT — Detectives are investigating the Sunday morning burglary of FM One Stop, a variety store at 447 Monroe Turnpike, and police believe the same suspects may have also been involved in a similar burglary at the Shell gas station on Route 111 in Trumbull earlier the same day.

At approximately 2:o4 a.m., officers responded to an alarm at FM One Stop and, while en route, were notified of another break-in at the Shell at 111 Monroe Turnpike in Trumbull.

Officers arriving at the crime scene at FM One Stop found the front glass door had been broken to gain entry. Inside, two Connecticut Lotto ticket machines had been thrown to the floor, along with loose change near front entrance.

The business owner arrived on scene shortly after the officers. Police are still uncertain about the exact amount of money taken from the cash drawers.

The Monroe Police Detective Division was called to the scene to process it for evidence and the matter remains under investigation.

Motorcycle rider seriously injured

A 66-year-old New York man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being involved in a two-vehicle-crash on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on Route 34 Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 3:49 p.m., police said evidence suggests the man rode into the back of a 2019 Chevy Colorado that had stopped for traffic, just east of Lake Zoar Drive-In.

Police said the occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.

The Monroe Police Department’s Serious Accident Reconstruction Team processed the scene and the road was closed for approximately three hours, before reopening at 6:50 p.m.

That was all of the information publicly available on Monday. Police said the matter is still under investigation.

Rollover on Route 25

A driver was hospitalized after being involved in a rollover crash on Main Street, on a stretch between north Pepper Street and Swamp Road, Friday afternoon.

Just before 3:30 p.m., police said a 37-year-old Stratford man was heading south on Route 25 in his 2024 Hyundai Sonata.

He later told officers he did not see traffic in front of him stop for a red light, swerved to avoid striking a car, went across the northbound lane, drove over the curb and down an embankment, before striking a utility pole, a stonewall and a sign as his car rolled over onto its roof.

Police said the utility pole snapped in half upon impact, as a portion of the pole, wires and a transformer fell to the ground.

Officers shutdown the roadway for 12 hours, detouring traffic until around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. During the road closing, officers contacted the Connecticut Department of Transportation to notify truck drivers and send truck traffic down to routes 111 and 34.

The driver was treated by Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel for injuries and taken to St. Vincent Medical Center for further evaluation.

He was cited for speeding, failure to drive in proper lane and driving with no insurance and his Sonata was towed due to disabling damage.

Protective order violation

A 29-year-old Bridgeport man was charged with violation of a protective order Sunday night, after police allegedly found him standing next to the woman it bars him from having contact with.

At approximately 7:41 p.m., officers responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the 50-block of Barn Hill Road found two vehicles pulled over with the hazard lights on and both drivers standing next to each other outside.

They reportedly told the officers they were Amazon drivers delivering packages, and were waiting to make an exchange with a third driver.

Police learned about the protective order against the Bridgeport man and identified the other driver as the person he was not to have contact with, according to police.

He was charged and released after posting seven percent of his $5,000 cash bond, and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
