MONROE, Conn. — Police received a 911 call Thursday night from someone reporting an erratic driver, who allegedly drove his pickup truck off East Village Road, before turning back onto the roadway and taking off when the witness stopped to try to talk to him.
The caller followed the truck as it headed down Route 111, so responding officers would know where it was.
An officer found the blue Chevy Colorado just south of the roundabout, observed it being driven erratically and pulled over the driver on Monroe Turnpike, at Cross Hill Road.
The driver, a 48-year-old New Milford man, had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and admitted to having two shots after work, police said.
He did not perform field sobriety tests to standard, leading to his arrest, police said, adding breath tests taken at headquarters showed a blood alcohol level that was nearly two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
Police charged him with DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving without a license. He was released on 7 percent of his $500 bond for a Dec. 29 court date.
Crash leads to DUI
A 24-year-old Milford woman was charged with DUI Thursday night, after crashing into a stonewall in her 2019 Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of Judd and Stanley roads.
Officers responding to the accident, at approximately 9:39 p.m., spoke to the driver, who reportedly admitted to having two drinks earlier in the night.
She appeared to be confused and her eyes were glossy, police said. Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel checked her for injuries, but she reportedly declined further medical treatment.
Police said she did not perform field sobriety tests to standard and breath tests at headquarters showed a blood alcohol level roughly double the legal limit.
She was charged with DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane, and released after posting 7 percent of her $500 bond for a Dec. 29 court date.

They described the male suspect as, “Caucasian, wearing a black hoodie shirt, gray pants, black ski mask and sunglasses,” riding a black bicycle in the area at that time.
