MONROE, Conn. — Town officials urge residents to prepare for the extreme cold and major winter storm, predicted to dump 14 to 20 inches of snow upon the region this Sunday, according to the latest weather forecasts.
“I recommend staying off the roads during the storm,” Police Chief Keith White said.” Snow drifting is expected with limited visibility. Visibility will be reduced to a quarter mile or less due to the heavy snow and winds predicted.”
A press release issued by First Selectman Terry Rooney’s office and the Monroe Police Department says snow plow drivers will be activated early Sunday and will continue working until the storm-related issues are over.

To avoid interfering with the clearing of snow from Monroe’s roadways, no vehicles should be parked on a public highway during or after a snowstorm.
The State reports that travel impacts are expected, but utility disruptions should be minimal due to the temperature and dry snow. The snowstorm is expected to bring lighter snow on Sunday morning, with the volume increasing throughout the day and into the evening.
Officials ask residents to limit calls to 911, using it only for emergencies requiring police, fire, medical or sheltering needs.
The Monroe Police Department Training Room will be open as a daytime warming center for anyone in need. If a greater need arises, the town will open additional sheltering options.
