MONROE, CT — Senior Night is always special for athletes. For Masuk High’s field hockey team all three final-year Panthers scored, putting a cherry on top of the festivities.

The Panthers defeated visiting Newtown 5-1 on Friday behind two opening-half goals off the stick of senior Abby Troesser and second-half tallies from seniors Emma Troesser and Molly Kinahan, along with a net-finder off the stick of Gigi Moretti.
Emma Troesser had a triumphant return from a tough-luck injury and showed her toughness with 30-plus stitches in her mouth after taking a ball to the face in a game only two nights earlier.

The seniors went out in style and the Masuk coaches were thrilled with the efforts of all of the Panthers.
“They were really good at switching fields,” Masuk Head Coach Laura Lageman said.
“And our defense was on,” added Assistant Coach Danielle Boucher, referring to the efforts of Madison Troesser, Georgia DaPonte and Kenny Sawyer.
The season continues. Up next is the South-West Conference Tournament.
Masuk visits Immaculate of Danbury in the conference tourney quarterfinals Monday at 4 p.m. The Panthers lost to Immaculate 3-2 during the regular season.
